Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort In Whitefish Montana

Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort, located at The Big Mountain in north-western Montana, is one of the rising stars on the stellar North American ski resort horizon. It is 6km from the town of Whitefish and is the second largest ski area in Montana, after Big Sky Resort. The vertical drop of the ski area is 717m, with a summit elevation of 2078m and a base of 1361m. The average annual snowfall is 762cm.

Big Mountain MontanaThe area has 10 chairlifts: three high-speed detachable quads and seven fixed grip. There are also three surface lifts: two T-bars and a magic carpet. Although the mountain has over 3000 acres of terrain, most of it is only accessible from the one main lift (the front side serviced by the Chair One high speed quad-gondola). That means you'll often end up in the same or similar areas to get back to the lift. However, if you're into glade or backcountry skiing, the options are limitless.

Lift lines are quick except on powder mornings when the entire town of Whitefish Montana will likely turn out! (There are over 7,000 pass holders.)

There is a free shuttle bus that runs from Whitefish, Montana to the ski area on a regular schedule. The village can get very sleepy after about 7pm so don't expect 'Spring Break' après. Otherwise you'll find everything you need in the town of Whitefish a 10 minute drive away.

However, be prepared for spells of very dense fog. If you are unlucky you might have a week's skiing hampered by it. All in all though, the terrain is highly varied and snow conditions are almost always great. Also resort prices are reasonable, the scenery is stunning and there is skiing for every skill level.
