Famous Women In Skiing History
History of skiing
We will start our history of skiing with what is referred to as 'modern skiing.' Modern skiing was brought to us by Sondre Norheim around 1870, although there is a scattered history of skiing before this time dating back as far as 5000 years.
There is some debate about whether or not Norheim actually invented the "birch binding" skis similar to the skis we use today, but there is no debate that he made them famous when at the age of 43 he was the winner of the first Norwegian national skiing competition.
As history continues on through the late 1800's skiing becomes more popular and by the 1900's resorts and clubs have become commercial because trains could now get people to them from the cities.
Just as with most history, as we skim through the realm of skiing history man after man is recognized through out time for inventing accessories, resorts, clubs, and winning races and competitions.
Other then the ancient image of a skiing Sami, or goddess, from 1553, women have been utterly unrecognized in the history of the ski world.

Thank goodness for true
modern times, where women are not only recognized for their
contribution to society's growth, but they are appreciated and
